York played in over 100 films and appeared on the stage. She was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her role as a marathon dancer in They Shoot Horses Don't They (1969) opposite Jane Fonda, which earned her a BAFTA as Best Supporting Actress in 1969.
